RUINA IN FABULA
Curated by Ilaria Sponda RUINA IN FABULA brings together works by Fabian Albertini, Claudia Petraroli, Manuel Tainha, Enea Toldo, Marta Luna Valpiana, and Vincenzo Zancana to examine human practices of co-creation with nature and technology-driven means. The project envisions a future through a non-human gaze—one that fosters a more entangled and imaginative relationship with the environment, beliefs and myths and bodies. It challenges the conventional delineations between technology, nature, and human artistry, advocating instead for their fluid interconnectedness. The title RUINA IN FABULA – a phrase nodding to the folkloric saying ‘lupus in fabula’ – interrogates the contemporary recurrence of ruin-related imagery, reframing it within a speculative and visionary framework. With an interdisciplinary approach, the artists introduce new symbolisms, and diverse visual narratives that invite to witness, rethink, and engage with the notion of kinship between body, technology, and nature in a world in ruins. What is enclosed, what escapes? What remains hidden, what is revealed? Here, the concept of RUINA IN FABULA becomes an open space for thought, one that refers not only to physical ruins but also to metaphorical, digital, or mythological. The artists’ works are positioned within a semi-abandoned venue—an almost post-apocalyptic sanctuary of refuge to a world in ruins. Here, the place is not merely a container and site of decay but an active agent in ongoing transformation, where speculative narratives emerge from the interstices and crevices of the unpolished.
